Today is World Water Day! Did you know that there are approximately 60 million people living in the UK, using on average 150 litres of water per day for washing, cooking and drinking?
Over half of that daily figure is used when we are in the bathroom; which is why Victoria Plumb, the online bathroom company, have put together a list of their top five water saving tips that will not only benefit the economy, by reducing the amount of water wasted – it will also have long term financial benefits for you and your home.
1. Brushing Your Teeth
Whilst brushing your teeth, you can use as much as 10 litres of water per minute – if you spend five minutes per day cleaning your teeth, that’s 50 litres of water per day and 350 litres per week!
However, by simply turning your tap off in-between brushing your teeth and rinsing, it can save a lot of this wasted water.
2. Bathing
When taking a bath you use around 100 litres of water. By installing a bath made from acrylic, the water will retain its warmth so you don’t have to keep adding hot water.
3. Showering
If you choose to take a shower over a bath, you will be automatically be saving around 40% of the water you use.
4. Flushing
The average person goes to the toilet five times a day – this can waste as much as 10, 950 litres of water if you have an older toilet installed, as they use up to 12 litres of water per flush. Many of Victoria Plumb toilets offer an economic dual flush toilet cistern that use either three or six litres of water per flush – saving you up to 75% of the water you may of being using previously.
5. Taps
By fixing that annoying, dripping tap, you will save 90 litres of water every week and 4,680 litres every year.
