Bon Secours New York Health System’s Schervier Nursing Care Center, located in the Riverdale section of The Bronx, is proud to announce that Jennifer Giuffrida, Director of Social Work and Therapeutic Recreation, has received the Award of Excellence in Clinical Practice from the Social Work Hospice & Palliative Care Network (SWHPN). Giuffrida was nominated by her peers, and then selected by the Awards Committee and the SWHPN Board of Directors as this year’s award recipient. She was presented the award at the SWHPN General Assembly on March 11, 2013, in New Orleans.
The Award of Excellence in Clinical Practice is presented to an individual in recognition of outstanding contributions to the field of palliative social work. Giuffrida was selected from a field of dedicated candidates and peers from across the country as a result of her demonstrated clinical contributions to palliative social work. The Award of Excellence honors the distinctive influence Giuffrida has made in developing and providing services to patients and families, her leadership in the clinical supervision of others, and her innovation and sustained success in clinical service.
“Jennifer has spearheaded the adoption of several outstanding achievements and improvements in our palliative care program,” said Gregory Poole-Dayan, Administrator of Schervier. “Through Jennifer’s leadership, we have seen many tangible and notable results, including an increase in the number of residents receiving palliative care services from five percent to over 25 percent, a decreased re-hospitalization rate, and a decrease in the number of residents with feeding tubes by over 40 percent. We are so proud of Jennifer for receiving this honor and are thankful to have such a dedicated staff member on our team to provide good help to those in need.”
“To be nominated and recognized by my peers, and to have the opportunity to represent Schervier and our palliative care program at the SWHPN General Assembly was truly an honor,” said Giuffrida. “I am so proud of what we have been able to accomplish at Schervier as well as the advancements that we have been able to make in palliative and end-of-life care. I share this recognition with my team and thank them for their support and dedication.”
