“For the macrocell market, vendors were all about modulation and MIMO and gigabit throughput,” says Lum.

EJL Wireless Research recently attended Mobile World Congress 2013 in Barcelona, Spain at the new Fira Gran Via. The company is presenting a free summary of conversations and interviews with wireless mobile backhaul radio suppliers who were attending and exhibiting at the show.
“The majority of the radio vendors were focused on the emerging small cells (microcell and picocell) backhaul solutions from sub-6GHz non-line-of-sight (NLoS) to V-Band (60GHz) and E-Band (70/80GHz) solutions,” says Lum.
“For the macrocell market, vendors were all about modulation and MIMO and gigabit throughput,” says Lum. This was the year of 1024 and 2048 QAM for modulation along with 2x2 MIMO capability for radio links and gigabit throughput in traditional 28/56MHz channel bandwidths.
