Portland, ME (PRWEB) March 31, 2013
The Real Estate Marketing Insider named the winner of its monthly “Hidden Gem” award, given to the market it deems to be the most overlooked and underrated by realtors and the real estate industry. On the back of a news story in the Seacoast Online, REMI’s choice for February is Maine’s Cumberland County, the home of Portland and one of the largest counties in the state.
Maine is not traditionally thought of as a prime real estate market. While it offers pristine views and wonderful getaway and tourism opportunities, it is often overshadowed by the offerings of upstate New York and its neighbors, including Vermont and New Hampshire. Despite that, the real estate market in Maine has remained strong and reported great news in 2012, with the market growing even stronger in the early months of 2013. Experts in the state announced that total home sales in January 2013 were 664, which is a 21-percent increase year-over-year. Meanwhile, the median price is on the rise to the tune of 3 percent.
Cumberland County, the most populous and wealthiest county in Maine, posted 627 sales in the fourth quarter of 2012; that’s a year-over-year increase of 16 percent. The sales price in the county leaped by a larger margin than the state median, landing at 5.9 above one year earlier.
These numbers suggest that Maine could be an excellent addition to any catalogue. The state offers excellent tourism, both coastal and inland, extensive cultural opportunities, and some of the best public education in the country. With a healthy real estate, Maine (particularly Cumberland County) features among the best real estate markets in the country. In addition to residential properties, the area also offers beautiful beachfront home rentals along its coastlines, making for diverse opportunities for realtors. However, not many realtors have paid attention to the area. Real estate agents that pick up properties in this month’s “Hidden Gem” can expect to see great opportunities come from it.
The Real Estate Marketing Insider named Cumberland County, Maine, its “Hidden Gem” market. REMI cited Maine’s impressive sales and price growth in January 2013 as being among the strongest in the nation. The Insider has noted that Maine is currently under the radar of many realtors, which poses an opportunity for agents who can pick up properties in the state.
