Private Investigators comment on the importance of preventing criminals from reoffending once released from prison in response to recent BBC News article by Caroline Le Marechal dated 25th March 2013: From prison cell to email entrepreneur

This scheme and another by Mr Jones, that aims to train people and help people into self-employment when they are realised, will make a huge difference to the moral of the prisoners.

According to a recent BBC News report ex prisoner and repeat offender, Derek Jones had a fantastic idea to set up a prison email service. After spending time in prison himself Derek knows that contact from loved ones and friends is an important part in the overall reduction of prisoners reoffending.

The report goes on to say that Mr Jones had a breakthrough when Guys Marsh Prison in Dorset agreed to try his scheme in 2006. Deputy governor Dave Quinnell said: “Due to the prisoners rural setting we were looking for ways to maintain contact with family and friends of prisoners because of its importance on the overall effect in reducing reoffending.”

They currently receive 25 communications per day on email and now more than 1580 UK prisoners are signed up to the service.

Private Investigators promote crime prevention and believe this scheme to be an excellent idea that has improved communication between prisoners and their families which in turn gives them a reason for going straight. Private Investigators have been involved with schemes that have helped young offenders from reoffending through supporting local authorities and the police.

Spokesperson from Private Investigators, Mary Rogers said: “In my professional opinion this scheme and another by Mr Jones, that aims to train people and help people into self-employment when they are realised, will make a huge difference to the moral of the prisoners.
