Marigot, Saint Martin (PRWEB) March 26, 2013
CaribComX today announced that it has deployed a new voice over IP exchange platform designed and installed by Massachusetts-based systems integrator Eastwind Communications. CaribComX is a Dauphin Telecom-led Caribbean partnership, funded by the European agency Interreg Caraibes IV. CaribComX’s charter is to provide smaller fixed and mobile providers with a new alternative to obtain competitive rates and to improve pan-Caribbean communications.
As part of an ongoing effort to continually improve their network performance and lower their costs, Dauphin has partnered with nine other island carriers to offer a multi-carrier exchange - CaribComX. Regions represented in the exchange include: Anguilla; Antigua; Barbados; Bonaire; British Virgin Islands; Curacao; Dominican Republic; Guadeloupe; French Guyana; Jamaica; Martinique; St Barth; St Kitts and Nevis; St Martin; Sint Maarten and St Vincent. By combining resources from such a wide base, the partner members are able to take advantage of economies of scale and connectivity options they may not have on their own.
CaribComX leverages a multi-vendor solution led by Eastwind Communications that includes technologies from Acme Packet, Global Convergence Solutions (GCS), and Dialogic. Eastwind integrated, installed and provided operational support for the least cost routing solution, session border controller and VoIP gateways deployed as part of the exchange. This unique solution enables smaller carriers to rapidly take advantage of VoIP technologies and greater call volumes to help improve communications and prices while minimizing their CapEx and OpEx investment. Each supplier has its own partitioned capability on the GCS Dynamic Management Solution to buy and sell termination. The Acme Packet session border controller provides IP connectivity, as well as network interoperability, reliability and security. Dialogic's media gateways provide quick and cost-effective SS7 interconnection for those networks not yet VoIP enabled.
“We’re pleased to offer this solution to our Caribbean partners. The deployment has gone extremely well," said Armando Blanco, Dauphin Telecom Technical Director. "We had a very aggressive six week timeframe from awarding the RFP to turning up the exchange. Eastwind was able to support us from both the business and technical aspects of this project. They understand the needs of smaller, competitive providers."
“Delivering and installing a multi-vendor network in an exchange environment requires the coordination of a lot of moving parts," said Tony Agostinelli, Eastwind President. “Having customers like Dauphin and the other partners who are very engaged and focused has helped us make this a success.”
About Dauphin Telecom and CaribComX:
CaribComX is an initiative started by Dauphin, a local fixed, mobile and long distance telecommunication operator and internet service provider in Saint Martin, with affiliate operations in Saint Barthelemy, Guadeloupe, Martinique and French Guyane.
Dauphin has more than 15 years of experience in the Caribbean and has participated in many European-funded projects. CaribComX is the first project that includes non-French territories. Therefore, it is considered very important as it lowers the barrier to market for smaller non-incumbent carriers across a wider Caribbean operator base, and it focuses on benefits to the end-user.
Eastwind is a systems integrator and value-added reseller focused on competitive service providers. Eastwind works with a core set of suppliers to integrate, deliver and support VoIP solutions for least cost routing, VoIP-VoIP networking, C7/TDM to VoIP, IP Centrex, pre/post-paid billing, conferencing, IVR, and call center applications.
