Leading digital health and wellness platform, Healthy You Now, will launch a web-wide awareness initiative to educate young women about available birth control options and to encourage more honest, open conversations about sex. In partnership with Bedsider.org, a free online birth control support network, the campaign is designed to start a candid, open dialogue that will lead to more responsible choices about sex, birth control, and unplanned pregnancies.
The videos, which will be released on Tuesday, March 26th, capture a glimpse of Healthy You Now founder Tonya Lewis Lee’s conversations with personal friends of hers, exploring young women’s varying perspectives on sexual myths, personal responsibility, society’s expectations and what kind of sex is the safest.
Lewis Lee, a tireless health advocate, best-selling author, attorney and filmmaker, created Healthy You Now to challenge the notion of one’s well-being reflecting their level of education, physical location or socioeconomic class. She and her health-savvy, devoted team found Bedsider’s message to be an increasingly important one, and will enlist their collective audiences to pass along this important message.
“As a mom, daughter, sister and friend, I can’t fathom any woman being able to afford being in the dark about the various forms of birth control available,” said Lewis Lee. “To talk about it is to know about it, but taking that first step isn’t easy for everybody. It’s our goal to show young women, many of whom are impressionable, and flooded with opposing information, why it all starts with a conversation.”
Bedsider.org provides tools for women 18-29 to find the method of birth control that’s right for them and learn how to use it consistently and effectively. “We are thrilled to have the opportunity to work with Tonya Lewis Lee and Healthy You Now to help spread this important message,” said Christine Church, Director Marketing at Bedsider.org. “The need is great; at present, fully 7 in 10 pregnancies among single women 18-29 are described by women themselves as unplanned.
The video series will be available starting Tuesday, March 26, 2013 on Bedsider.org and HealthyYouNow.com.
