SkillSurvey®, Inc., the inventor and leading provider of online reference-checking solutions, is pleased to announce that New Hanover Regional Medical Center of Wilmington, North Carolina, is now a subscriber to SkillSurvey’s Pre-Hire 360® online reference-checking solution.

The public healthcare system employs about 5,400 people - including over 500 physicians - and is now using the system to gather feedback from references on hires for several positions across the organization.

“After identifying that our current reference-checking process was not useful in predicting new-employee turnover, we began speaking with other healthcare organizations that improved their new-hire retention and hiring manager satisfaction using Pre-Hire 360®,” explained Jessica Beardsley, employment manager at New Hanover Regional Medical Center. “We decided to move forward with a three-month pilot and saw the benefits immediately.”

Pre-Hire 360® automates the process of gathering input from a job applicant’s references by using behaviorally-based surveys delivered through an electronic platform. The surveys delve into a candidate’s strengths and developmental needs, as borne out on the job. Confidential input from managers, peers, subordinates and business partners provides a multi-dimensional view of the candidate’s past performance. The system overcomes the usual reticence of former employers because they are released from legal liability and their feedback is not personally-identifiable.

“The added information we receive from a candidate’s references, especially the verbatim comments, is invaluable,” added Beardsley. “We run the SkillSurvey® report on the candidate prior to the meeting with the hiring manager and we’ve had very positive feedback from hiring managers about the new process and the additional information that is now available to them about the candidate.”

“We are glad to have New Hanover Regional Medical Center join our growing number of healthcare organizations that are turning to SkillSurvey® to make better hiring decisions,” said Ray Bixler, president and CEO of SkillSurvey®. “SkillSurvey’s Pre-Hire 360® is scientifically proven to predict job performance, and we are confident that SkillSurvey® will continue to improve New Hanover’s new-hire retention and hiring manager satisfaction.”

New Hanover Regional Medical Center, founded in 1967, is a teaching hospital, regional referral center, and Level 2 Trauma Center serving southeastern North Carolina and northeastern South Carolina. In 2012, U.S. News & World Report ranked the hospital among the Best Hospitals in North Carolina and the Coastal Plain area and recognized it as high-performing in these areas: cardiology and heart surgery, gastroenterology, orthopedics and pulmonology.
