The language may be different but clearly the Scots and the Germans have the same refined taste when it comes to enjoying a fine malt

In November 2012, Ealain Gallery used marketplace management experts Seller Dynamics to list on Amazon UK in order to sell their range of premium Scotch whisky on that marketplace. Four months down the line, the whisky specialists have been amazed at the success of their online operation and as a result have now taken their first steps into the European marketplace by this month opening an online store on Amazon Germany.

In 2012, the total value for the Scotch whisky market was over £4 billion. While many of the bigger players within this industry have always traded heavily on the export market, Seller Dynamics’ expertise in placing retailers on large online marketplaces has empowered many smaller retailers to do likewise.

Seller Dynamics enables clients to sell on multiple marketplaces from a single dashboard platform. With a steady stream of business coming from their Amazon UK store, Ealain Gallery have seen fit to move into the German market.

Despite being renowned for their world famous beer, Germany is currently the 3rd largest European market for Scotch whisky exports and it’s clear that whisky is becoming an ever more popular drink of choice in Germany. £65 million was spent on imported Scotch in the first half of 2012, a figure up from 4% on the previous year. The signs are truly there to suggest that the Germans appreciate the complex tastes of Scottish malts - something very pleasing for the owners of Ealain Gallery!

Steve Boland of Seller Dynamics was delighted with Ealain Gallery’s decision to trade on multiple marketplaces and hoped that they would be as successful on Amazon Germany as they were on Amazon UK.

“With their Amazon Germany store now fully operational, Ealain Gallery are effectively managing this channel the same way in which they manage their Amazon UK operation – the only real difference being higher postage costs and remembering to include the Ü’s and ß’s when using the Seller Dynamics stationery tools to print out packing slips!”

The language may be different but clearly the Scots and the Germans have the same refined taste when it comes to enjoying a fine malt. Whisky is on the rise in Germany and as long as this continues to be the case, the owners of Ealain Gallery will be more than happy to crack open a bottle of their finest whisky and “prosit” the success of their German venture.
