50th Annual Family Fun Fest to be Held April 5 to 7 in Larose, Louisiana: Celebrating 50 Years of Fun

The Bayou Civic Club of Larose will host the 50th annual Family Fun Fest April 5 to 7. This year, it will celebrate 50 years of family fun with a two-hour cooking demo and tasting with celebrity chef John Besh, pirogue races on Sunday, a lineup of 10 great, live bands, and an Olympic experience that features activities for the entire family.

The Bayou Civic Club of Larose will host the 50th annual Family Fun Fest April 5 to 7. This year it will celebrate 50 years of family fun with a two-hour cooking demo and tasting with celebrity chef John Besh, pirogue races on Sunday, a lineup of 10 great, live bands, and an Olympic experience that features activities for the entire family. The festival will celebrate “50 years of Family Fun” with a 50th Anniversary Birthday Cake Decorating Contest and with various other festivities throughout the weekend.

The first Family Fun Fest was held in 1963 as the Holy Rosary fair and was very small local gathering. It has grown to an annual event that draws thousands from around the region. Jasmine Ayo, executive director of the Larose Civic Center, said, “We’re proud of the way it’s grown, and that we’ve been able to keep it a free and unique festival for the people of south Lafourche promoting our heritage, community and culture.”

Mr. Ted Savoie, who has been involved with the Family Fun Fest since its early years as the Holy Rosary Church Fair said, “This festival is the interweaving of our community history through Holy Rosary School, Holy Rosary Church and the Bayou Civic Club, Inc. (Larose Civic Center) as WE all operate and contribute for the betterment of the place where we live.”

The festival will be held at the Larose Regional Park and Civic Center Friday, April 5, through Sunday, April 7. Admission and parking are free. The weekend will include a two-hour cooking demo and tasting with celebrity chef John Besh, pay-one-price carnival rides, live music, a presentation by Olympian Mark LeBlanc, more than 30 + La seafood dishes at the food booths. Menu items include Shrimp Boulettes, Crawfish Fettucinne, Fried Fish, Shrimp Fajitas, Meat Pies, Gumbo, Crab Patties and more.

Live music will be performed by Gary T., Signal 19, Chee Weez with Brandon Foret, Waylon Thibodeaux, Ruff N Ready, Velvet Sky, Southern Cross, Amanda Shaw, Don Rich and Ryan Foret.

The series is presented by the Bayou Civic Club of Larose, and sponsored by BP, Ignite Creative Marketing, Chevron and Dig In! Lafourche.
