Wilmington, Delaware (PRWEB) March 28, 2013
Delaware Governor Jack Markell recently announced an impressive milestone: the state is now home to more than one million corporate entities. Long known as the nation’s “corporate capital,” Delaware is the legal domicile for more than half of all publicly traded U.S. companies and nearly two-thirds of the Fortune 500®, and serves a launching pad for 80% of all new initial public offerings.
“We have the best corporate law in the country … We have the best business court in the country,” said Markell during remarks on March 20. Businesses choose Delaware as their legal home thanks to the state’s business-friendly climate, clear corporate statutes, and its Chancery Court, a unique, centuries-old judicial body that has written much of U.S. corporate case law. In his remarks, Markell also cited the Delaware Division of Corporations’ efficiency as a major factor in making the First State the first choice of businesses worldwide.
