“Our connectivity has remained up through many severe weather incidents, allowing staff to work from home and ensuring that we can remain in communication with students,” said Scordino.

Lightpath®, a market leader in Ethernet-based communication solutions for New York metropolitan area businesses, has helped Westchester Community College in Westchester, New York, continually improve services and instruction over the past decade. With access to affordable, high bandwidth connections made possible by a 100 percent fiber network, the College has transformed education in Westchester County.

Westchester Community College serves 14,000 credit students each semester and 14,000 non-credit students each year. Its main campus and five remote locations are connected via the Lightpath 100 percent fiber network. The College saw continued opportunities to support its operations and education with technology and worked with Lightpath to turn ideas into reality.

“Technology impacts our entire staff and all of our students, and we count on reliable network connectivity to keep them running smoothly,” said Anthony Scordino, Vice President of Information Technology for Westchester Community College. “Lightpath has played a major role in our continued evolution, serving as an important partner that understands our needs and provides the right products and support to help us advance.”

The College has deployed Internet Voice Bundle and multiple E-Line dedicated point to point connections from the Lightpath Education Services Suite. It has leveraged these value-based products to move its registration system to the Web, connect security staff across locations, power classes via video on demand and incorporate closed captioning into lectures to assist hearing-impaired students. Teachers have taken advantage of the abundant bandwidth to enhance the classroom experience by incorporating multimedia elements into lectures and classwork. Lightpath also plays a major role in the College’s disaster preparedness.

“Our connectivity has remained up through many severe weather incidents, allowing staff to work from home and ensuring that we can remain in communication with students,” said Scordino. “Lightpath’s continued network reliability gives us confidence that we can rely on it during times when connectivity is of the utmost importance.”

The Lightpath Education Services Suite has helped educational institutions achieve cost-savings over communication services and significant bandwidth boosts for greater flexibility in deploying new digital learning tools. As a result, schools are able to change the way education is delivered by empowering students through distance learning, interactive whiteboards, intra- and inter-campus communication through video conferencing, virtual field trips, one-to-one laptop initiatives, all-digital homework and assignment processes, real-time status update access for parents and more.

“As a long-time Westchester Community College partner, Lightpath is proud of the role it has played in evolving the learning experience for the school’s many students,” said Julia McGrath, Senior Vice President of Marketing and Business Development for Lightpath. “We look forward to our continued work together as the College pursues new opportunities that transform education.”

Lightpath has named Westchester Community College as its Customer Spotlight of the Month for March 2013. For more information about Lightpath, visit http://www.golightpath.com.
