Covina, CA (PRWEB) March 29, 2013
Doctor Stuart Rubin has partnered with National Children’s Oral Health Foundation: America’s ToothFairy (NCOHF) to combat pediatric dental disease, a silent epidemic hurting children in Covina, CA. Doctor Rubin is recognized as a NCOHF Dentist of Distinction for demonstrating his commitment to children’s oral health by volunteering to provide comprehensive oral health services for an at-risk youth participant in the Tomorrow’s SMILES program. Through this special NCOHF program, a local teen in need is receiving life-changing donated services and education from Dr. Rubin to help prepare them for a healthy and productive future. In return for these services, the teen has commited to Pay It Forward by teaching oral health lessons to younger children in our community.
“Pediatric dental disease can have devastating consequences for our children, their families and the future of our community,” commented Dr. Rubin. “I am proud to partner with National Children’s Oral Health Foundation: America’s ToothFairy to help rescue children from the preventable pain and suffering associated with this disease.”
Pediatric dental disease, more commonly known as tooth decay, is recognized as the #1 chronic childhood illness. Statistics show that 50% of children will develop tooth decay by the third grade and 86% by age 17. Suffering in severe pain from the disease, millions of children are unable to eat, sleep or concentrate in school. Left untreated, rampant tooth decay causes pain, low self-esteem, sleep deprivation, malnourishment and dangerous infections. Statistics show that 50% of children will suffer from tooth decay by the third grade and 86% will have tooth decay by age 17. Inhibiting a child’s ability to grow and learn, tooth decay and gum disease can also lead to lifelong health problems and limited employment potential.
“We are grateful to Dr. Stuart Rubin for taking a leadership role in improving children’s oral health in his community by providing critical services to needy teens through the Tomorrow’s SMILES program,” stated Fern Ingber, NCOHF President and CEO. “Together, we are helping ensure teens and young children have the building blocks they need for happy, healthy futures.”
