Foie Gras Demonstrations and Tastings Now Available in Private Homes in California and Nevada

Mirepoix USA announces Foie Gras Dinner for Eight and 3-Course Foie Gras Demonstration and Tasting, two new offerings now available to customers in California and Nevada.

According to Mirepoix USA founder, Laurel Pine, when customers purchase foie gras in Reno, they are able to legally transport the product to California.

Mirepoix USA, a leading online purveyor of specialty gourmet foods and traditional French foods, is now offering 3-course foie gras demonstrations and tastings and 5-course sit down dinners, prepared at customer’s private homes, by Mirepoix USA founder, Laurel Pine. The company is currently scheduling dates in the Bay Area and Los Angeles for spring and summer, 2013.

Senate Bill 1520, the “California foie gras ban”, became law on July 1, 2012. In response to the ban, Mirepoix USA relocated all operations to Reno, Nevada, in order to be able to continue selling foie gras legally in the state of Nevada.

According to Mirepoix USA founder, Laurel Pine, when customers purchase foie gras in Reno, they are able to legally transport the product to California. Pine is able to offer private foie gras parties in California as long as the product is purchased legally, outside of the state of California.

Pine stated, “Though we disagree with the constitutionality of the current legislation banning the sale of foie gras in the state of California, Mirepoix USA will operate within the confines of the law.”

Mirepoix USA’s Foie Gras Demonstration and tasting is priced at $995, and includes having the company’s founder demonstrate and serve three foie gras preparations to up to 10 people, in the customer’s private home. The customer will be left with a quart of Mirepoix USA’s signature foie gras ice cream, and two 12 oz pieces of foie gras cured in lavender sea salt. The demonstration will include deveining a lobe of foie gras, and preparing Foie Gras Cured in Lavender Sea Salt, Searing Foie Gras, which will be served with Poached Fennel and Black Pepper Caramel Sauce and making Foie Gras Ice Cream.

Mirepoix USA’s foie gras dinner for eight is $1775 and includes five courses, five bottles of expertly paired wines, an optional cooking demonstration, and a leftover quart of foie gras ice cream and two 12 oz pieces of foie gras cured in lavender sea salt. The menu can be customized, but a sample menu includes: Black River Caviar on Potato Crisps with Crème Fraiche, Foie Gras Cured with Lavender Sea Salt, Foie Gas Cappuccino, Sea Scallops Infused with Fresh Black Truffle served on a bed of Braised Leeks and Truffled Mashed Potatoes, and Foie Gras Ice Cream with Traditional Balsamic Vinegar from Reggio Emilia, Italy.
