The Inaugural Holiday in Dixie BBQ Cook-Off will be held Saturday, April 20 in Shreveport

Sanctioned by the National BBQ Festival, this event will feature teams preparing chicken, pork ribs, pork and brisket in a judged competition presided over by Kell Phelps, president of the National Barbecue Association.

The Holiday in Dixie Ambassadors Club will host the Inaugural Holiday in Dixie BBQ Cook-Off, 3-10 p.m., Saturday, April 20 in the riverfront area of Festival Plaza in downtown Shreveport. Admission is $10 and includes three BBQ sample tickets. Additional sample tickets may be purchased for $1. Proceeds raised at the event will benefit the Holiday in Dixie Senior Essay Scholarship for Caddo and Bossier Parish students.

Sanctioned by the National BBQ Festival, this event will feature teams preparing chicken, pork ribs, pork and brisket in a judged competition presided over by Kell Phelps, president of the National Barbecue Association and publisher of National BBQ News. Guests may purchase tasting-sized samples of BBQ items in competition for the Peoples’ Choice Award while enjoying live music by Avery Michaels, 4-5:30 p.m., and The Boogie Kings, 6:30-10 p.m., on the riverfront stage. Judged category winners and Peoples’ Choice Awards will be announced beginning at 5:30 p.m. Food, soft drink, beer and wine vendors will be available.

The carnival rides, concessions and entertainment offerings of Holiday in Dixie will also be available in Festival Plaza, located immediately adjacent to the BBQ Cook-Off.
