The Deputy Prime Minister has praised Barnfield Academies for their work in improving the achievement of disadvantaged students in Luton.

The success of our students is of paramount importance to us, no matter what their background or ability.

Nick Clegg MP has written to the Principals at Barnfield South and Barnfield West, to encourage them to enter The 2013 Pupil Premium Awards to showcase the work of their Academy using the Pupil Premium.

The Pupil Premium is additional funding given to schools, so that they can support their disadvantaged students and close the attainment gap between them and their peers.

The Awards will allow both Academies the opportunity to showcase innovative and effective practice in how to help these students to excel.

Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg said in his letter: “The most recently available Key Stage results show that you are among the top-performing schools in England for boosting the performance of disadvantaged pupils since the Pupil Premium was introduced.

“This is a real testament to the hard work of staff, pupils, parents and governors. I would like to congratulate you on your results and your proven commitment to making sure all students can succeed, whatever their background.”

Cathy Barr, Principal Barnfield South Academy, and Samia Akram, Acting Principal at Barnfield West Academy, agreed: “To have this recognition from the Deputy Prime Minister is wonderful and we continue to work hard to ensure that every student within the Federation has the best possible chance of reaching their dreams.

“The success of our students is of paramount importance to us, no matter what their background or ability.”
