Partnership Between NetCom Learning and BRAC USA Sets Goal of Opening Over 30 Preprimary Schools in Bangladesh

Initiative focuses on girls education in developing countries, celebrates the “love of learning”

NetCom Learning, a leader in IT, business and executive training, has announced a partnership with BRAC USA, the US affiliate of international development group BRAC, to provide education for boy and girls in BRAC schools in Bangladesh, targeting communities in poverty.

The Love of Learning is part of the Learning Movement of Russell Sarder, the CEO of NetCom Learning, who is originally from Bangladesh, while BRAC is the world’s largest private, secular education provider.

NetCom Learning has long aimed to promote the values of lifelong learning as part of its corporate social responsibility initiative. To create this program, NetCom Learning is partnering with BRAC USA, a nonprofit organization that works to reduce poverty, for girls and women especially, and help individuals create better futures for themselves and the communities in which they live.

NetCom Learning and BRAC USA expect to be able to raise funds to open more than 30 new preprimary schools for children in Bangladesh in the next few months thanks to clients and partners in the Love of Learning program.

As of mid-2012, BRAC operates 38,400 primary and pre-primary schools in Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Uganda, and the Philippines. It specializes in quality, low-cost “second chance” schools for children left behind by formal schools systems due to poverty, displacement and discrimination.

Although including both boys and girls, the make-up of BRAC schools is majority female due to BRAC's understanding that girls and women are most likely to bring change to developing communities. BRAC is likely the world's top implementer of “the girl effect.”

The Love of Learning is tied to class registrations at NetCom Learning. For every technical course registration that occurs with a prepaid price of $2,000 or more, NetCom Learning contributes funding for a child's education for a year in a developing country.

BRAC, founded in Bangladesh in 1972, is one of the world’s top-ranked charities.

BRAC’s founder, Sir Fazle Hasan Abed, has spoken in favor of reform of public education systems in developing countries, replacing outdated approaches such as rote memorization with methods that teach children to think for themselves, including social and emotional learning, critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

“I believe we can reform public education systems in developing countries and replace these outdated approaches - and that we can do so in a cost-effective manner, while still adhering to the principle of ‘access for all,’” Sir Fazle Hasan Abed has said. “When it comes to educating the next generation of global youth, access and quality need not be mutually exclusive. Lessons can be drawn from my native Bangladesh.”
