For my clients, divorce does not define them but refines them. They take away a new and improved version of themselves on the other side of the journey.

The start-up of the book tour for CDC Certified Divorce Coach® Cheryl Nielsen’s recently published book Meritage Divorce: A Blend of Financial, Physical, Emotional and Spiritual Guidance…Through Wine Colored Glasses is being held as a Meet the Author event on Sunday, April 21 at 6:30 pm at the Bodega Wine Bar, 814 Broadway (@ Lincoln), Santa Monica, CA. Space is limited and RSVPs can be made by emailing: Cheryl(at)meritagedivorce(dot)com.
Cheryl’s book is written from her own experience in divorce and she recognizes that divorce is a tumultuous journey and one not to be taken alone. She shares her very compassionate and practical advice for the whole process and does it in a unique way – by using wine metaphors throughout to describe the journey from one state of mind to another – which she likens to the barrel refinement process. She adds, “I’ve always been passionate about wine and I had the opportunity to grow a 600 vine Cabernet Vineyard in Orange County that inspired some of the wine metaphors.”
Cheryl coaches others in the midst of divorce through her Meritage Divorce Journey Workshops adapted from her book and here she shares the catalyst for her becoming a CDC Certified Divorce Coach®:
“For my clients, divorce does not define them but refines them. They take away a new and improved version of themselves on the other side of the journey. Divorce offers the opportunity to go back into the barrel and become the wine you want to be – a kind of barrel refinement process.
I was released on the other side of divorce with a burning desire to share some of the wisdom of my experience and to offer hope, support, companionship and guidance to those embarking on this tumultuous journey and to tell people that they really can get something positive out of the experience of divorce.
I discovered the CDC Certified Divorce Coach® Program as I was in the final editing of the book. The program was a perfect match for me because I was planning on doing workshops based on the book. The program really helped me to bring a group coaching approach to this by expanding my listening and coaching skills. I am now able to take the effectiveness of my Meritage Divorce Journey Workshops and have them make an even more profound difference in the lives of others impacted by divorce.”
Cheryl talks about her workshops: “My workshops are entitled Meritage Divorce Journey Workshops and they are designed for those that are just in the midst of divorce. What makes them unique is that they are themed around the whole barrel refinement process and are based on my book and several companion resources.
In the workshops we learn how to spit out the past, re-produce ourselves and decant a future. The workshops also offer support with the financial, physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of each person through designing a “divorce support system” to carry us through divorce.
Your personal growth, reflection, and self-discovery in this workshop delivers your own personal wine character made smooth perspective, compassion, and humility. Your character may change-even your body. Being in the barrel is a time to sit still and allow a transformation from the past and to create you own new and better version of you! And this is why it is so important to have a divorce support system.”
