Local Fuel Company announced their new community outreach program already hitting donation goals, while bringing families together during challenging times.

“We’ve been delivering energy in the form of fuel oil to residential homes in NH since 1937, and we wanted to find other types of energy that would make everything we do serve the community in new ways." - John Miles, President of Putnam Fuel, Inc.

Local Fuel Company, Putnam Fuel – lead by John Miles (President) and Betty Martel (Vice President) has launched an outreach program to benefit families and children in need, that commenced December 2012.

What’s more exciting than delivering oil? According to Putnam Fuel, delivering money to the Salvation Army and uniting area business is! Count the $1000 check that they’ll be writing to Salvation Army this week, and so far the plan is a success. Their new 2013 outreach program was inspired by the company’s ongoing interest in connecting with and helping the community during the challenging economic times – especially when it’s cold outside. When asked why Putnam created this program, John Miles had this to say, “We’ve been delivering energy in the form of fuel oil to residential homes in NH since 1937, and we wanted to find other types of energy that would make everything we do serve the community in new ways. This outreach program is our way of giving back and getting the community, children and families together in fun, rewarding and educational way – while also raising money for charities that serve children and families in our area.”

Their innovative program was developed in partnership with area coaching and consulting firm, Innerspire of Manchester, NH. Here’s how the program worked. According to Nate Lindquist, CEO of Innerspire, “Basically, we created a challenge where we could offer Putnam clients and new potential clients an opportunity to refer business to Putnam, upgrade their accounts to automatic delivery or start a new account with Putnam from scratch. For each instance where that took place, Putnam committed to donate $5 to the Salvation Army to help children and families in need.” Additionally, both Innerspire and Putnam promised to make a $1000 joint donation regardless of the campaign’s performance. The great news is that more than 2 dozen people took advantage of the contest and for doing so, they were also given $50 gift certificates to have a family moment such as getting a free Christmas tree and wreath, getting a free lunch, hardware supplies or groceries. The area businesses that through their support behind this campaign include: Sully’s Superette Goffstown, Harvest Market of Bedford, NH, Ace Hardware of Goffsown, NH, Putnam’s Waterview Restaurant of Goffstown, NH, and Aubuchon Hardware of Bedford, NH. They all took the time to share their reasons for helping and have also expressed interest in joining Putnam Fuel to keep the giving and family moments alive in 2013! Visit the Putnamfuel.com website and the supporters page to find out what they had to say about their involvement and why it makes sense to get involved! In support of the campaign, Putnam fuel sent out over 16,000 direct mailers and has spent one-on-one time with several area business leaders to rally support for this cause and for the community now and in the future – not to mention building an interactive web portal at http://www.putnamfuel.com. According to Patty Putnam, owner of Putnam’s Waterview Restaurant, “This is the right time for businesses to incorporate giving and unity into their strategy. Businesses need to push toward creating human connections and we are so proud to have been part of Putnam Fuel’s outreach campaign.”

Since the beginning Putnam Fuel has always given back to the community with contributions to local sports programs, The Odd Fellows Children’s Programs and many other worthwhile causes. And, although they noted that they don’t intend to change “that” they give, they are paying more attention to “how” they give. According to Betty Martel, “We’ve got a great team here who works hard to deliver our maintenance services for heating and a/c systems – as well as oil deliver services – but we knew that it was time to add to the excitement of how we make a difference. The team is very excited and so very grateful to have gained such overwhelming support from our area business partners on the first campaign.
