It’s truly a Cinderella story for Yasmin Pereymer. The Brooklyn-based mother knew she really liked cooking but she had no idea she could take her love and become a success story in the world of mobile apps.

Pereymer enjoyed cooking and finding new recipes for most of her life, but she thought her passion for cooking and creating delicious recipes would be reserved exclusively for an audience consisting of her family until she discovered the Apple Newsstand. Pereymer, who was also an avid fan of cookbooks and cooking magazines, came up with the idea to create her own cooking-themed magazine. The magazine, titled “Simple Cooking,” has become a sensation on the Apple Newsstand.

Although it seemed like a long shot for a stay-at-home mom to create a magazine, Pereymer was able to create her magazine and then publish the magazine to the Apple Newsstand. Pereymer launched the initial issue of her magazine in December, and since then she has enjoyed overwhelming success. Pereymer’s magazine has had over 100,000 readers since its debut and has consistently been recognized in the “What’s Hot” section of the Apple Newsstand. She has also experienced 20% growth each month her magazine has been available to readers. “Simple Cooking” is completely free to readers.

“I started Simple Cooking with the thought that it would be a small project; a hobby really,” said Pereymer. “But after I published it on the Apple Newsstand, I was gaining readers by the thousands, and competing with the big names in the world of magazines and publishing. It was truly astonishing that I could take something that had started so small and create such an amazing project.”

The Apple Newsstand has seen tremendous growth in the past year, and more than 50% of Americans report receiving their media content online and through the use of an app. The Apple Newsstand has become a groundbreaking way for individuals to publish their work, making it widely available to a large audience.

“It’s amazing to me, because just last year I was a fan of cooking magazines, but I never dreamed I would publish my own,” said Pereymer. “And I certainly never dreamed it would be something that would have a huge and dedicated following. It really is still unbelievable that I’ve been able to create something that people seek out and want to read.”

Pereymer plans to continue building her magazine, and adding more unique and creative recipes in order to keep her readers engaged in her content. She also has plans to begin utilizing cooking videos in addition to the vivid photos and detailed recipes already included in “Simple Cooking.”
