A recent Briefing Paper issued by the House of Commons Library shows that youth unemployment is on the rise again (Youth Unemployment Statistics Standard Note SN/EP/5871 20th March 2013). People often think of the Highlands as a lovely place to visit, but for some reason they don't consider the area as somewhere they might live and work.

A quick internet search for Scottish Highlands will bring up a wealth of stunning images which may appear to be a romantic ideal, but which in fact represent a daily reality for those lucky enough to live there. Often referred to as the Outdoor Capital of the UK and home to Ben Nevis, the UK’s highest mountain, opportunities for the adventurous abound from skiing (on actual snow) and climbing to water sports and ‘munro-bagging’. Yet, despite being home to Europe’s largest natural wilderness, the Highlands do not lack for all the amenities modern life requires. The local airport allows you to connect with a variety of cities throughout the UK, including London, and the city of Inverness itself has everything you could possibly need, whether you are a young singleton looking for a vibrant nightlife, a family looking for child-friendly activities or an older couple looking for a quieter life. From beauty salons, health spas and yoga classes, to theatre, cinema and nightclubs, the Highlands have much to offer. To top it all off, Highland residents are among the happiest in the UK, the area has excellent schools and is considered to be one of the safest places to live in the UK.
