"In order to stay one step ahead of nimble bad actors, organizations must form a broader, more structured, trusted information-sharing network"
Pittsburgh, PA and Tacoma, WA (PRWEB) April 9, 2013 (PRWEB) April 09, 2013
Malcovery®, the leader in delivering actionable intelligence that can be applied to neutralize the threats and actions by cyber criminals in the areas of phishing, spam and malware, today announced a strategic partnership with IID (Internet Identity®), a provider of technology and services that help organizations secure their Internet presence. Under the terms of the agreement, Malcovery and IID will each share their big data sets of cyber attack vectors and collaborate to enhance their respective threat analytics solutions. IID will resell the Malcovery products and services through a strategic reseller partnership.
“In order to stay one step ahead of nimble bad actors, organizations must form a broader, more structured, trusted information-sharing network,” stated Gary Warner, Chief Technology Officer (CTO) and co-founder of Malcovery Security. “By sharing data and reselling solutions to joint customers, IID and Malcovery will enable trusted threat intelligence collaboration and deliver closed-loop security solutions in phishing, spam and malware for enterprises and governments.”
Launched in early 2013 as a result of an exclusive, worldwide license from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), and based on research in cyber forensics conducted at the Center for Information Assurance and Joint Forensics Research (CIA|JFR) at UAB, Malcovery has quickly gained commercial success with enterprise customers such as eBay, Facebook and Visa. IID has been securing some of the world’s largest enterprises for more than a decade and has a long history of collaborating with UAB. The company provides annual scholarships to UAB students involved in the research and development of advanced cyber forensic solutions.
With this partnership, IID and Malcovery will offer enterprises the unique capability to more proactively counter phishing attacks, which, according to a recent EMC Corp.(RSA) report, “The Year in Phishing,” significantly increased in 2012 and will continue rising in 2013.
The current response to phishing for most companies is to engage an outsourced specialized vendor to perform the tricky business of phishing site takedowns. While some of these vendors have been successful reducing the length of time it takes to remove a phishing site from the Internet, most are not capitalizing on all of the information available to them. As a result, the threat quickly reappears at another compromised Internet site.
By combining IID's leading threat mitigation offerings with Malcovery’s big data security intelligence analytics, the joint solutions provide a holistic approach to combating phishing threats. The Malcovery-IID solution seeks out and verifies phishing attacks hosted from many available sources, collects all forensic information related to the attack vector, and uses patented computer forensic science techniques to correlate all of the data.
Malcovery recently published a white paper entitled, “Closing the Window on Losses to Phishing” about this approach, which can be downloaded at http://info.malcovery.com/losses-to-phishing
“We are delighted to partner with Malcovery in order to further break the silo model where security vendors refuse to share threat data with each other,” stated IID CEO Lars Harvey. “Through this new collaboration which combines capabilities and technology from IID, Malcovery and UAB, we can deliver exciting new cyber solutions to our customers.”
About Malcovery® Security
Malcovery Security is the leading provider of actionable cyber security intelligence and forensic analysis, delivered through software and services that target cyber criminals and their activities. The company's patented and patent-pending technology provides the ability to identify the ‘root sources’ of cybercrime attacks (servers, perpetrators, locations, etc.), delivering rich intelligence information about cross-brand attacks and targeted attacks, as well as advanced notification of emerging e-mail-based threats.
Unlike services that serve as a response to these attacks today--services that simply address the symptoms, but cannot provide the intelligence to actually stop the cybercriminal--Malcovery Security’s solutions provide the unique intelligence required to respond effectively to attacks on customers’ brands, to disrupt phishing activities and successfully prosecute cybercriminals.
Malcovery Security is based on technologies developed at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) The Center for Information Assurance and Joint Forensics Research (CIA|JFR) and has offices in Pittsburgh, PA and Birmingham, AL.
