International Women's Insolvency & Restructuring Confederation ("IWIRC") announced today its 2013 Founders Awards recipients. This year’s honorees are leaders in the restructuring community and volunteer their time and expertise to helping IWIRC grow and continue to flourish at the local, national and international levels. The Founders Awards are comprised of three categories: the Melnik Award for exceptional IWIRC member; the Fetner Award for outstanding international contribution; and the Ryan Award for outstanding IWIRC network.
Judith Elkin, a partner at Haynes and Boone, LLP, is the recipient of the Melnik Award for exceptional contributions by an IWIRC member. Judy is the immediate past Chair of IWIRC, has been on the board of directors for over ten years and has been a member of the organization since its inception in 1994. She has contributed significantly to the growth of the group having been instrumental in the IWIRC rebranding initiative through the development and implementation of a new logo, website, board of directors structure and Bylaws.
Barbara Rumora-Scheltema of NautaDutilh in Amsterdam was awarded the Fetner Award for exceptional contributions by an international IWIRC member. Barbara currently serves as the IWIRC European Regional Director. She has been an instrumental member of the team responsible for shepherding further expansion of IWIRC programming throughout Europe by helping develop IWIRC programming in connection with INSOL’s Quadrennial Conference at The Hague to be held in May, as well as initiating the first IWIRC sponsored panel included as part of the INSOL Europe curriculum which will be held in Paris in September. Moreover, under her leadership, membership in the region has increased as a result of the Network’s growth initiatives.
The winner of the Ryan Award for Outstanding IWIRC Network is the Delaware Network. The Delaware Network exemplifies the mission of IWIRC—commitment to the connection, promotion and success of women in the insolvency and restructuring professions worldwide—through its unique programming and community outreach. Through event collaboration with other networks, creation of a Community Service Initiative Program and its push to increase membership, the Delaware Network is a model of success for other local networks.
“These winners represent the best of the best of IWIRC,” said Jennifer Meyerowitz of Epiq Systems and IWIRC Chair. “Judy, Barbara and the Delaware Network have made incredible strides for the organization and I am proud to call them friends and colleagues. It is the dedication and commitment of our volunteer leaders that have allowed us to see the incredible growth that we celebrate on our 20th anniversary.”
