Beach cleanup event in Huntington Beach hosted by the Surfrider Foundation Saturday, April 27

Employees from digital agency ymarketing and health and well-being company UnitedHealthcare will celebrate Earth Day by volunteering for a beach cleanup in Huntington Beach Saturday, April 27. The Surfrider Foundation event will be as “zero waste” as possible with volunteers encouraged to use reusable water bottles, 100 percent biodegradable trash bags and gloves to help reduce landfill consumption.

“The Surfrider Foundation focuses on ocean and beach preservation and is currently active in 18 countries around the world. Huntington Beach is in ymarketing’s backyard, and we have always focused on giving back to our local community,” said Edna Munoz-Lash, corporate social responsibility director for ymarketing.

This is the second Orange County event where UnitedHealthcare and ymarketing employees have volunteered together to give back to the local community. Last October, volunteers helped feed more than 615,000 Orange County residents through the Second Harvest Food Bank.

The beach day cleanup is also an important way to raise awareness about the importance of having a clean environment by removing beach litter.

Studies have shown that thousands of people each year go to the doctor for stomach illness, respiratory disease, and eye, ear, and skin infections caused by exposure to polluted waters south of Los Angeles, costing millions per year. Huntington Beach has a 3.5-mile stretch of pristine shoreline and is a west coast surf mecca for more than 8 million annual visitors.

“We are grateful for the opportunity to partner with yMarketing and to support the Surfrider Foundation’s efforts to help make our beaches safer and cleaner,” said Peter Ngin, director of online operations, United Healthcare Medicare & Retirement.
