Sunset Magazine, the leading lifestyle brand in the West, announced today that it has selected Seabrook, Washington as the location of its 2013 Idea Houses and first-ever Idea Town. Sunset and its team of expert editors will partner with Seabrook to construct two Idea Houses that exemplify the casual, beautiful, and innovative ideas that are found throughout Sunset and the pedestrian-friendly new beach town on the Washington Coast. Seabrook is located approximately 2.5 hours from Seattle and 3 hours from Portland.

Since 1998, Sunset magazine has built Idea Houses and Dream Remodels throughout the West that showcase the latest innovations in architecture, construction, design, and sustainable building and gardening practices. This year, for the first time in the 15-year history of the Idea House program, Sunset will name a Sunset Idea Town in addition to building its Idea Houses. The Idea Houses and Town will be featured in the October 2013 issue of the magazine.

Seabrook’s cottages and homes, all of which are within a five-minute walk of basic needs, are situated along streets, alleys, parks, plazas, and a retail district that are artfully designed to frame outdoor rooms where neighbors and guests gather.

“Seabrook is a charming seaside town built on big ideas that promote a true sense of community,” said Sunset Editor-in-Chief Kitty Morgan. “Seabrook’s ability to integrate these development principles seamlessly within a stunning natural environment is what made it the ideal candidate for the 2013 Idea Houses and the Idea Town recognition.”

The two Idea Houses and courtyard guest cottages are located just steps from miles of sandy beaches as well as Seabrook’s local restaurant, market, and growing retail district. The modern homes will include sustainable design features, capitalize on views of the Pacific Ocean and native coastal forest, and emphasize outdoor living.

Tours of the Idea Houses will be available August 2 through October 27, Friday through Sunday, from 10 am to 5 pm. The cost of home tours will be $18, of which a portion will be donated to the Seabrook Community Foundation. Seabrook Town Tours will be available everyday July 1 through September 2 and every weekend the remainder of the year.

For the 2013 Idea Houses and Town, Sunset pulled together a team of experts from throughout the West. The team consists of Brian Paquette of Seattle’s BP Interiors, Peter Brachvogel of BC & J Architects, and garden designer Stephen Poulakos. Seabrook Construction Company will be the homes’ builder. Sponsors of the Sunset Idea Houses include Andersen Windows and Doors, AZEK Building Products, Benjamin Moore, Cost Plus World Market, Metal Roofing Alliance/ASC Building Products, and Sunbrella Fabrics.
