Social media agency fishbat, Inc. discusses ‘Instasham’, a faux-Instagram service that allows users of the photo sharing platform to broadcast images of luxurious lifestyles.

On April 1, 2013, social media agency fishbat responds to Instasham, a photo sharing service that mimics Instagram and allows users to share elaborate stock photos.

"If you can't make it, Fake it" is Instasham’s official slogan as seen on their about page.

According to CBC News writer Lauren O’Neil, Instasham is a free, online collection of fabulous stock photos for posting to Instagram. Created by Andy Dao and Stacey Smith, Instasham features hundreds of high quality phone-sized images that “look like they've been ripped from an A-Lister's life.”

"We are a society that brags through megapixels," reads Instasham’s about page. "It is in this insight that we saw an opportunity and Instasham was created."

O’Neil writes “If you've ever wanted to floss like you drive an Aston Martin, travel around the world, have a closet filled with designer duds, now is your chance.”

“Since the emergence of Instagram, picture sharing has exploded on social networks,” comments fishbat CEO Clay Darrohn. “Instasham is offering photo-sharing users the opportunity to build their own ‘Matrix-like’ social media profile.”

Darrohn adds that though creating a faux profile can be fun, there are limitations to the service provided by Instasham. “Social media profiles are an extension of our personal selves that we can manufacture and groom to our liking. Social profiles like Facebook and Twitter allow users to be themselves however they wish to appear. A platform like Instasham allows the average Instagram user to appear better and more successful – but let there be a reminder that social profiles are not the user but just a reflection of the user and nothing more.”

Darrohn says that Instasham is meant to be fun and engaging for social media users.
