Bristol Private Detectives comments on the importance of protecting against fraud in light of recent BBC News report dated 27th March 2013: Gravesend shop worker guilty of lottery fraud

It can be surprising the amount of dishonest, ruthless and greedy people there are out there and it is better to be protected against fraud and other crimes.

According to the report, shop worker Imran Pervais misled a syndicate from Morrison's Utility Services in Chatham when he told them they had only won £10, when their ticket matched five balls and the bonus ball. This win was worth a £79,887 payout. The work syndicate was run by Cullum Crosier, who checked their ticket when he returned to work and realised he had fallen victim to fraud.

The report goes on to say that Pervais told Crosier to return to the shop in a couple of hours and he would check the shop for the ticket. When he returned to Moore's Convenience Store and demanded to see the ticket, he was given a number of bin bags to search through before being invited to look behind the counter. Pervais was arrested when an investigation, carried out by Camelot, found that the winning ticket had been scanned at the store. The police found that wooden plinths had been removed from the back of the counter which revealed a number of pink tickets including the one with the winning line.

Although it is very rare for retailers selling lottery tickets to be accused of fraud, Camelot have very stringent operations in place to prevent unlawful activity from taking place. Bristol Private Detectives is a private detective agency that believes it is important not to be too trusting, like Cullum Crosier trusted Pervais when he went in for the syndicate’s winnings.
