Franchise Business Review Research Looks at Trends, Top 200 Brands

Sports and recreation, travel, and senior care are the top industries for franchisee satisfaction, according to a new report released today by market research firm Franchise Business Review.

Franchise Business Review’s 2013 Guide to Today’s Top Franchises looks at an array of franchise concepts, models, and investment levels to report on the top trends in franchising for 2013.

The data for the report was compiled as part of Franchise Business Review’s annual Franchisee Satisfaction Awards, which recognize the top franchise brands based on overall franchisee satisfaction. Now in its 8th year, the FBR50 is the only awards program to look at actual franchisee satisfaction data (based on a survey of nearly 26,000 franchise owners) to rank companies.

The 2013 list of award-winners, announced last month, includes 200 franchise brands. Senior care, child services, food, and fitness are among the most popular industries for franchising in 2013, according to the report.

“We’re seeing a renewed focus on growth among franchisors after years of playing it safe,” said Franchise Business Review president Michelle Rowan. “Brands that weren’t aggressively selling franchises during the recession are back in the game, and established brands are expanding into sub-brands and services with an eye toward growth.”

Other themes discussed in the report are franchisor transparency, increased interest in multi-unit ownership, lending concerns, and governmental impact. Designed to be a resource guide for prospective franchisees, the Franchise Business Review report looks closely at how the 2013 trends will affect franchisees.

“By all accounts, 2013 is a great time to buy a franchise. Thriving franchise brands have spent the last three years while the economy was slow fine tuning their systems and helping franchisees improve their bottom lines. That said, nothing guarantees a franchise concept will be successful,” Rowan said. “Prospective franchisees must thoroughly research a franchise opportunity, and one of the most important things to look at is franchisee satisfaction data.”

Franchise Business Review, a market research company, looks at franchise opportunities from the perspective of a franchisee candidate using both detailed company and industry research applied consistently across all franchises. While the success of any franchise investment is highly dependent on the actions and performance of the individual franchise operator, Franchise Business Review's research focuses on key metrics collected from FDDs, management interviews, industry and competitor information, and Franchise Business Review’s own proprietary analysis.
