Every academic quarter, the Globe network of career colleges awards thousands of dollars to students through scholarships and tuition reductions. Awarding scholarships is just one tactic the network of schools is employing to reduce college expenses for students.

Globe University, Minnesota School of Business (MSB) and Broadview University awarded $1.9 million in winter-quarter 2013 scholarships to 2,452 incoming and existing students to help them achieve their educational and professional goals. Annually, the network of career colleges awards around $10 million in scholarship money.

Scholarships are just one of several initiatives the school employs to make college more affordable for everyone. Jeff Myhre, chief communications officer, said “Each year hundreds of students receive scholarships, with scores of the awards $10,000 or more.”

Veteran Scott Bye is a student at the Minnesota School of Business Blaine campus. He’s already received nearly $11,000 in scholarships from the school. “These scholarships have helped me in that they’ve kept tuition prices down and assisted with my living expenses,” Bye said, who is training to become a massage therapist.

To help defray the cost of college, Myhre is also leading an initiative to reduce the cost of books and lab fees on a per class basis to $100 or less. To achieve that goal the school is piloting e-books and digital class materials that will replace paper equivalents.

Over the past five years, Globe’s network of career colleges has awarded approximately $50 million in scholarships to more than 12,000 students.
