House of Brides Celebrates 84th Anniversary

“Our customers traveled from far to our salon because of the one-of-a-kind collections we featured and the excellent service we provided. We knew we could assist more customers if we made the move towards them,” says President Eva Buziecki.

House of Brides reached an impressive milestone this month with 84 years of dressing brides and wedding parties. The retailer is the oldest and most recognized bridal name in the country.

The retailer was established in 1929 with its first salon in Cicero, Illinois. The company was founded as a family owned and operated retail salon. The retailer gained early attention and became a popular shop for area brides.

The salon moved to a larger location in Berwyn, Illinois in 1956. The retailer expanded its wedding dress and bridesmaid dress lines to accommodate their growing customer base.

In 1971, Eva Buziecki headed the Berwyn salon working alongside her husband Dale, his grandmother and the couple’s mothers. The newly married pair continued the fundamental principals of service, selection and savings, of which the company was built upon.

During this time, customers began to flock to the salon with increasing numbers coming from the far suburbs of Chicagoland, downstate Illinois and surprisingly, from out of state.

With a larger customer radius, Eva and Dale Buziecki recognized a void in the bridal industry. Nearly all wedding retailers at the time were 1-location shops. This meant the retailers were geographically restricted and dependent on the customer to come to them.

“Our customers traveled from far to our salon because of the one-of-a-kind collections we featured and the excellent service we provided. We knew we could assist more customers if we made the move towards them,” says President Eva Buziecki.

The Buzieckis seized the opportunity to fill this void by opening multiple locations in retail hubs in Chicago and its suburbs.

Over the course of the next 4 decades, the company has grown to 11 retail locations. In 2001, the company went global with its E-Commerce website, houseofbrides.com, selling to customers worldwide.

Plans for new Chicagoland locations are underway. The retailer is also planning to expand with nationwide salons.

In the retailer’s 84 years, millions of brides and wedding parties have visited the Illinois salons and website. House of Brides continues as a family owned and operated salon with the Buziecki’s 4 children working within the business.

The retailer plans to celebrate the anniversary throughout the month of April with special sales and events.

Customers may view Store Promos and Trunk Shows on the retailer’s site for upcoming sales and events.
