“Stay Fit Have Fun Day” at Local Elementary School Co-Sponsored by Children’s Obesity Fund & Pro Skateboarder Manny Santiago

On May 10, 2013 the children at Westport Heights Elementary School in Los Angeles will be both entertained and educated about the importance of living active and healthy lives. The “Stay Fit. Have Fun” day is co-sponsored by professional skateboarder Manny Santiago and the Children’s Obesity Fund.

The Children’s Obesity Fund and its co-founders Michael Omidi, M.D. and Julian Omidi, are co-sponsors with professional skateboarder Manny Santiago of a special educational and activity-filled event, entitled “Stay Fit Have Fun Day.”

“Promoting healthy living is a key component in educating our students and preparing them for future success. I’m thrilled that the students of Westport Heights Elementary School are participating in the “Stay Fit Have Fun” Day,” says Principal Karen G. Long.

On Friday, May 10, 2013 the 500 plus students and staff of Westport Heights Elementary School in Los Angeles will enjoy:

An exciting and intense skateboarding demonstration by Manny Santiago and Dave Bachinski who are members of the national competitive team for OC Ramps. Manny will also share his enthusiasm for fitness and healthy choices and his love for kids.

Los Angeles mayoral candidate Eric Garcetti, who has represented the local community for more than ten years on the Lost Angeles City Council, is scheduled to deliver an inspirational address.

The book, “I am Healthy! Affirmations for Health and Well-being” by the I AM Foundation. The book supports children, parents, and teachers to make healthy choices regarding food, exercise, and other daily activities. It includes a workbook section along with articles and teaching aids for parents and teachers. The book will be gifted to all the school children by the Children’s Obesity Fund and the I Am Foundation.

Bottled water from People Water, which donates to clean water projects around the world for each bottle sold. Healthy snacks with organic foods and dried fruits as an alternative to candy prepared and donated by Whole Foods Market in El Segundo.

“At Whole Foods Market, two of our Core Values are ‘Caring About Our Communities and Our Environment’ and ‘Promoting the Health of Our Stakeholders Through Healthy Eating Education’. This event is a win-win for us in that regard," says Lisa Zollner, Marketing Supervisor, Whole Foods Market, Plaza El Segundo.

“I’ve been blessed with a great life … with a loving family, good health, and the ability to follow my passion for skateboarding.  Good, healthy habits and an active lifestyle are the foundation of it all and I want to emphasize that with today’s young people,” says professional skateboarder Manny Santiago.  “I’m grateful to the Children’s Obesity Fund and the other event supporters for helping to make 'Fun Fitness Day' a great success … a fun event that inspires kids to follow their dreams and live happy, healthy lives.”

A new dad, his latest desire is to reach out to kids and share his passion for staying fit and healthy, and of course, for skateboarding. Santiago and his childhood friend and fellow skateboarder Dave Bachinski will demonstrate their jumps and moves using high quality wooden skateboard ramps from OC Ramps. Santiago and Bachinski are members of the OC Ramps National Skateboarding Team, competing under the popular banner: Skate for Life!
