On April 3, social media agency fishbat, Inc. discusses the new design for Pinterest as outlined in an article posted on Mashable.

The Mashable article claims that Pinterest has recently undergone some changes but that many of the changes are not necessarily obvious. The aesthetic design of the site experienced some alteration in picture size and layout. The relocation of certain buttons, setting options, and the format of drop down menus has also been a noticed change.

However, the article states that Pinterest has made numerous changes that one wouldn’t necessarily notice unless it was looked for. A list of removed features includes hashtags, tweets, a reduction in the number of characters that can be used in a description, and Facebook “Likes.” Linking also has some limitations now, reports Mashable; an infograph describes the limitation, saying “the only links allowed are the ones in your profile linking to your website and social profiles.” The use of embedded links has been removed completely.

Another new component for Pinterest was the induction of a web analytics tool. The article says that the only way to gain access to the web analytics feature is to hold a business account. The business or savvy social media agency will be privy to information including pins from the business’ own site, the number of impressions for pins, the count for clicks on the pins, and various other tracking features.

Scott Darrohn, COO of fishbat, Inc., offers his view on the updated Pinterest. “The casual Pinterest user probably won’t notice much change and they will most likely pin as they always have. However, the restrictions on being able to view only who you follow could be very discouraging, as it limits a user’s access to new pins. This limitation can be particularly inconvenient for new users.”

Darrohn adds that Pinterest’s growth has been phenomenal, so it will be interesting to see how the company capitalizes on the momentum it's built. “Pinterest has no doubt gained a very strong following. Cutting connections with Facebook and Twitter is a serious expression of confidence on the part of Pinterest.”
