SHRM’s continuing designation recognizes the high quality of our master’s degree program.
University Park, PA (PRWEB) April 04, 2013
The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) has renewed its designation of Penn State’s online Master of Professional Studies in Human Resources and Employment Relations (HRER) degree as a program that meets SHRM’s HR Curriculum Guidelines. SHRM’s renewal indicates that the program is consistent with the content areas specified by SHRM for a graduate HR Program. The guidebook and associated templates developed by SHRM are the result of a highly interactive, ongoing process involving practitioner and academic communities. The program will be listed on the SHRM website.
“As the leading professional organization in the field of human resources and employment management, SHRM plays an important role in setting human resource education standards,” said Paul Clark, head and professor in Penn State’s Department of Labor Studies and Employment Relations. “SHRM’s continuing designation recognizes the high quality of our master’s degree program.”
Penn State’s HRER program is designed for human resource professionals and those in other fields who want a career in human resources. The program focuses on the challenges of hiring and retaining talented employees, managing complex benefit plans and remaining up to date with labor laws and employment-related trends. It is offered by the College of the Liberal Arts and delivered online through Penn State’s World Campus.
Its four areas of concentration — benefits and compensation; labor and collective bargaining; employment and labor law; and staffing, training and development — have been approved by SHRM. The Department of Labor Studies and Employment Relations decided to deliver the program online to make it more convenient for working adults to complete the degree.
