Musician Ronnie Dee and his new band The Super Stars have launched a crowdfunding project on the hot new website ClickStartMe to raise funds for the first CD of their special blend of rock, funk and soul party music. “Our new CD will be the kind of music that you love to hear when you are down, or when you are up to pump you up even more,” the lead signer and saxophone master says. “The Super Stars are all about funk, soul and a bit of rock and roll."
Dee created his ClickStartMe campaign to raise the funds for his band’s first CD, but also to spread the word about the Super Stars far and wide. “When we were looking for a crowdfunding site to do this, we settled on ClickStartMe because, unlike the others, they took a hands-on approach and helped us from the beginning,” Dee says. “Plus, as a fun, party band, how could we not be on the site that ‘puts the fun in crowdfunding?’”
The Super Stars ClickStartMe project has interesting rewards for those who contribute to the cause. Rewards range from pre-sales of their upcoming CD to personal acknowledgments in the liner notes. “Want to be a rock star? For some donors, you can come on stage with the Super Stars and actually sing a song with us!” Dee exclaims. “When we say the audience is part of the party, we mean it.”
Dee is a 5th generation musician and the son of legendary recording artist Joey Dee of Joey Dee & the Starlighters, best known for their smash hit The Peppermint Twist. Growing up in a family of talented musicians paved the way for Dee to make music his career choice. “My father taught me things about performing and about making music that you can’t learn from a text book,” Dee says. “Being on stage with him, rehearsing alongside him, and seeing how he handled fame were valuable lessons that I take with me on stage every time I perform.”
Dee has performed more than 5000 live shows, and the Super Stars were born from his love of being on stage and performing. “When the Super Stars perform, we try to cut out all the boring parts of songs and we hardly ever stop,” Dee says. “Because we want you on the dance floor the whole time we're onstage. We want you as sweaty as we are, and for you to have as much fun as we have.”
In addition to his thousands of live performances, Dee performed as a studio vocalist on the soundtrack of the Oscar winning documentary When We Were Kings. He recently received critical acclaim as the songwriter for the Broadway show Growing Up 70's, and currently composes and produces jingles for Bright House Networks. Dee is also a multi-instrumentalist, specializing in composition, studio production & editing. Dee has performed all over the world and recorded, composed and performed vocals on national ads for Dr. Pepper, Diet Coke, and Budweiser.
