This award is a tremendous honour. As a practicing fertility doctor and educator, I am delighted to have the opportunity to share my experience and insight into fertility treatment with this talented group of future physicians.

Olive Fertility Centre is proud to announce that co-founder and co-director Dr. Jason Hitkari has been awarded the Outstanding Educator Award on behalf of the UBC medical class of 2014 for his contribution as Reproduction Week chair and lecturer. This is the second time Dr. Hitkari has received this award acknowledging the recipient for “extraordinary commitment to teaching and making a significant contribution to learning.”

“This award is a tremendous honour,” says Dr. Hitkari. “Reproductive Endocrinology is an exciting and rapidly changing field. And just as our technology is advancing, so is our model of patient care. As a practicing fertility doctor and educator, I am delighted to have the opportunity to share my experience and insight into fertility treatment with this talented group of future physicians.”

Dr. Hitkari is currently extremely involved in medical student education in reproduction and infertility at UBC. He also coordinates the Reproduction Seminars for the Obstetrics and Gynecology resident physicians and lectures extensively throughout BC to family practitioners, family practice residents, allied health professionals, and gynecologists.

After completing his training in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of British Columbia, Dr. Hitkari went on to do a formal fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at Mt. Sinai Hospital in Toronto. He then returned to Vancouver, where he joined Genesis Fertility Centre as a co-director. In 2013, Dr. Hitkari left Genesis to open a new clinic, Olive Fertility Centre, with Drs. Taylor, Yuzpe, and Fluker.

“Olive Fertility Centre has been up and running since January 2013, but we are looking forward to moving into our brand new clinic at City Square in Vancouver in June 2013. We have some of the most experienced fertility specialists in Canada as part of our physician team, and we are using this experience to build our dream clinic. It will have the most up-do-date lab, exciting new technologies, and a unique model of patient-centred care where we can offer patients a highly personalized experience throughout their entire fertility treatment at Olive.”

Dr. Albert Yuzpe, who has founded two previous fertility clinics, is delighted at the opportunity the new clinic affords.

“I am more excited now, with the founding of the Olive Fertility Centre, than I have ever been in the past because we have so much more to offer our patients. It has become so obvious to us that our patients need to have a known and identified team that knows them well and to whom they can turn to with questions and concerns. Many of our former staff (who we have worked with for over a decade) are joining us at Olive. They are looking forward to moving toward our ultimate goal of “Patient-Centred Care.”
