"Feeding instructions and recipes into the system from any standard database becomes trivially easy with the Database Query feature," said Mr. Andrew Thomas, President of Cogent.

Cogent Real-Time Systems announces a new Database Query feature for Cogent DataHub® version 7.3 that allows it to send SQL queries to a database, retrieve data, and feed it into any OPC-enabled automation or process control system. This feature augments the existing ability of the Cogent DataHub to log real-time data to a database, thus enabling a bi-directional real-time window between virtually any control system and any ODBC-compliant database.
"An increasing number of plant engineers and production managers need to integrate live processes with stored data records," said Andrew Thomas, President of Cogent. "With this new feature, users of the Cogent DataHub will be able view, edit, and manipulate archived data alongside real-time data in a SCADA system, custom program, or on the web."
The Database Query feature is fully integrated with DataHub® WebView™, a Silverlight™ application that runs in a web browser, allowing users to access data from anywhere on the Internet. By querying a database, DataHub WebView users can now receive real-time updates, run dynamic analytics, and view system performance on live or archived data, from any location.
"Feeding instructions and recipes into the system from any standard database becomes trivially easy with the Database Query feature," said Mr. Thomas. "You can trigger a query on a timer or any data change event in the system."
Unlike proprietary tools designed for specific database tables or products, the Cogent DataHub can pull data from any table of any ODBC-compliant database. The data can be made available to other programs formatted with each row of data in an array, or the entire query results in a single data point. Queries can be triggered by timers and data changes, under a wide range of customizable conditions.
The Cogent DataHub provides quick, reliable, and secure access to valuable information direct from industrial processes or embedded systems. DataHub WebView is a Silverlight application that runs in a web browser, allowing users to access data from anywhere on the Internet. Used together, the two products support a new type of real-time infrastructure for industrial data integration and cloud computing.
Founded in 1995, Cogent provides proven middleware products to enable real-time data integration and distribution for industrial, embedded, and financial systems. Customers include Siemens, ABB, Honeywell, IBM, GE, Statoil, Goodyear, BASF, Cadbury Chocolate, and the Bank of Canada.
