Catapult Technology announces its reappraisal at Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI®) Level 3, an important industry designation that confirms a company’s adherence to software engineering best practices and effective processes.

Quality is important to Catapult, and therefore the goals for the CMMI® assessment were to ensure that the software engineering services delivered to our customers continually exceed expectations.

Catapult Technology, Ltd., a leading federal government contractor that provides a wide array of information technology and management consulting services, announces its reappraisal at Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI®) Level 3, an important industry designation that confirms a company’s adherence to software engineering best practices and effective processes.

CMMI® is a process improvement approach that provides organizations with the essential elements of effective processes that ultimately improve their performance. An appraisal at maturity level 3 indicates that Catapult is performing at a “defined” level. At this level, processes are well characterized and understood, and are described in standards, procedures, tools, and methods.

The appraisal was performed by Pittsburgh, PA-based Process Transition International (PTI). The appraisal team included representatives from PTI, Catapult Headquarters, and Catapult employees working on a current customer project. The appraisal scope included all software development and maintenance projects at Catapult headquarters, located in Bethesda, MD.

Lessons learned from the appraisal of internal SharePoint development at Catapult’s Headquarters can be applied to any external customer project.

“We maintain the CMMI® approach to ensure that we are using best in software development practices for our customers,” said Mark Hunker, President and CEO of Catapult Technology. “Quality is important to the company, and therefore the goals for the CMMI® assessment were to ensure that the software engineering services delivered to our customers continually exceed expectations.”

The appraisal followed the Software Engineering Institute (SEI) Standard CMMI Appraisal Method for Process Improvement (SCAMPI) v1.3 method and is based on CMMI-DEV v1.3 for Maturity Level 3. Preparation for the appraisal began October 2012, with milestones met throughout the process leading to the on-site appraisal in February 2013.

Catapult has held this designation previously. CMMI® appraisal expires after three years, so the company went through the reappraisal in order to maintain Maturity Level 3 designation. Catapult is also certified to ISO 9001:2008 and ISO 20000:2011. Additionally, company employees hold Lean Six Sigma and Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL®) certifications. Catapult’s Project Managers are all required to be PMP certified as designated by the Project Management Institute (PMI).
