New study has identified what consumers believe hashtags are used for.

Consumers are very familiar with social media platforms such as Twitter and Facebook and drawing consumers in via these is extremely important to businesses in the 21st century.

According to a study published on Econsultancy, consumers believe the most common use for hashtags is for identifying trends, closely followed by believing they are used for finding information on brands and products with 20 percent stating this as a use for hashtags. The study also found that 58 percent of respondents use hashtags, with 70 percent of them using it on a mobile device. Half of all surveyed stated that they would share hashtags more often than they do now in return for discounts and 17 percent said they would be willing to post the promotion on their social profiles or follow the brand associated with the content if they weren’t already.
