God has provided us with some beautiful, nutrient-dense foods for centuries. These foods come this way naturally without the use of harmful chemicals. Why do we seek to change that?

What is being called a colossal deal between Monsanto and DuPont was inked into law by President Barack Obama earlier this week and the protests and backlash for this deal have not stopped. Tara Dodrill, a columnist for Off The Grid News, brings to light what she feels are some incredibly controversial pieces of this immense puzzle.
Off The Grid News advocates heirloom gardening while continually shedding light on the harsh techniques used in the process of GMO foods. Bill Heid, founder of Off The Grid News questions the importance of GMO foods. “God has provided us with some beautiful, nutrient-dense foods for centuries. These foods come this way naturally without the use of harmful chemicals. Why do we seek to change that?”
In her article, Dodrill recalls a campaign speech to Iowa farmers on November 10, 2007, “Here’s what I’ll do as president, we’ll let folks know whether their food has been genetically modified because Americans should know what they’re buying.” Dodrill calls attention to the fact that since that very speech, 62 countries have put GMO labeling laws into place. Dodrill believes that the worst part of this whole mess is that the activists that fought so heavily for obesity and sugary drink bans have been quiet.
“It is both shocking and infuriating that all of the liberals who support freedom-infringing nanny state initiatives designed to enhance our health and protect us from ourselves are not coming out against the Monsanto Protection Act. I have not heard a single anti-obesity or sugary drinks ban activist condemn the potentially dangerous GMO crops,” says Dodrill.
Dodrill urges that this is not a matter of profit, but a matter of safety. “Profit is not an evil word; America was founded by hard-working individuals who put their sweat and tears into building a business. But, profit at the sake of harm to others is simply not acceptable. Cars must have seatbelts, motorcyclists must wear helmets, and talking on the cell phone while driving is outlawed in most states – yet something as important to our survival as food has fallen victim to politics and the deep pockets of DuPont and Monsanto.”
