A brand new, ultra chic five star hotel has opened in the grounds of Blackpool Zoo just in time for the busy summer season.

It is free to stay in, boasts breathtaking views of the 32 acre grounds and has hundreds of rooms, but there are definite height and weight restrictions for guests.

The swanky ‘Bug Hotel’, which has been named Millipede Mansion, provides plush accommodation for creepy creatures of all kinds and, as weather gets warmer, it won’t be long before the ‘No Vacancies’ sign goes up.

It was hand crafted by talented zoo fan Lynne Gorrie, who is disabled and has very limited use of the right side of her body.

Lynne explains: “I have seen these bug hotels at various places and, as I had some left over wood at home, I decided to make one for the zoo.

“They are fantastic habitats for all kinds of bugs and insects and I thought it would be a great addition to my favourite Blackpool attraction.

“Since I completed it I have really got the building ‘bug’ and I am just putting the finishing touches to a Butterfly B&B!”

“Lynne is extremely talented and we feel very fortunate to have such a devoted member. She continuously champions our work and is always coming up with new and exciting ideas."

“The Bug Hotel is in our new wildlife garden, which has been specially created by our Education team to show visitors some of the simple steps they can take to attract wildlife to their own gardens."

“I am sure word will spread on the creepy crawly grapevine very quickly and we are certainly looking forward to giving our first ‘guests’ a very warm welcome!”
