Simply stated, less weight equals better fuel economy and less mass equals more passenger room, comfort and potentially more seats in any application.
Bloomfield Hills, MI (PRWEB) April 08, 2013
Jeff Gross, Director of Product Development for The Acme Group was invited to present on the advantages of suspension seating at 2013 Business Jet Interiors World Expo, which was being held during the Business Airport World Expo, in Farnborough, England near London. The Expo welcomed thousands of visitors from over 52 countries March 19-21, including operators, owners and designers of executive jets, corporate fleets, private charter as well as many other airline professionals.
The presentation detailed how the use of The Acme Group’s exclusive suspension fabric, ComfortSpan™ using Dymetrol®, is revolutionizing seating by allowing the designer to produce a foam free seat. Weight savings is a primary factor for long-term energy savings in transportation. In an aviation application based on a 189 seat 737 airliner, ComfortSpan saved eight pounds per seat, resulting in an overall weight savings of over 1,500 pounds. In studies based on Airbus/Boeing aircraft, using ComfortSpan in lieu of traditional foam seats allows a size savings of up to four inches per seat adding eleven additional seats per plane.
“Simply stated, less weight equals better fuel economy and less mass equals more passenger room, comfort and potentially more seats in any application. Using ComfortSpan not only ensures the best possible passenger experience through an innovative seating desing, but also allows for added luxuries that would have made the aircraft weigh too much with traditional seats.” said Jeff Gross.
Acme Group’s clientele are actively looking to reduce or even eliminate non-recyclable foam, increase design options and reduce their overall carbon footprint. ComfortSpan further facilitates cost reductions by removing unnecessary components and simplifying seat construction, such as zigzag wires, clips, springs, insulators and a reduction of foam. All of this effectively means an increase in environmental well being and design capability.
