Ever been stuck in an airport, on your way to a vacation - flight’s delayed, nerves are frayed, kids are dazed ...?

Ever been stuck in an airport, on your way to a vacation, flight’s delayed, nerves are frayed, kids are dazed ...? That’s pretty much a universal dilemma these days. And it’s probably why children’s recording artist, Lanny Sherwin, won the “Outstanding Achievement in Songwriting” Award for his song, “Airport Blues”, in the Great American Song Contest. As a result of the award, Sherwin was added to the GASC Songwriter's 2012 Hall of Fame.
“We were stuck in the Denver airport,” Sherwin recalls, “And every hour an announcement would come over the loudspeakers saying that our flight was still delayed and they’d have an update in another hour. This went on for 5 hours. Cell phones and iPods dying, patience dwindling, stomachs complaining - I knew if our family survived, I get a great song out of it.”
Lanny’s not really feeling too blue, though, since this marks the 52nd music award he has won with his children’s record label, Sandman Records (http://www.SandmanRecords.com).
“Airport Blues” appears on Sherwin’s 5th children’s CD, “Meltdown”. His songs have been licensed by Continental Airlines, Fisher-Price, Triple Scoop Music, and many more.
When he’s not contemplating investing in Amtrak in lieu of air travel, Lanny teaches songwriting to elementary school students, performs in schools and hospitals, coordinates a “Pickleberry Pie Very Special Hospital Concert” series in Santa Barbara’s Cottage Hospital, and writes personalized songs for seriously ill children through the Songs of Love Foundation.
Sherwin’s, motto is: “Don’t Drive Parents Crazy!”, and his songs appeal to parents as much as to their children. “As a songwriter and a parent, I’m aware of what parents have to go through in listening to their children’s music. It can be painful. I just try and write in styles of music that I love – The Beatles, Jackson Browne, the Eagles, Jimmy Buffett. That’s what I grew up with, and I think it’s pretty timeless music.”
Lanny Sherwin’s CDs are online at Amazon, iTunes, CDBaby, Kidzmusic, and the Sandman Records website. For more information, visit http://www.SandmanRecords.com or call 805-450-3715. A portion of Sandman Record’s proceeds benefits numerous charities, preschools, hospitals and children’s fundraisers nationwide.
