Franklin W. Olin College of Engineering was recently honored by ARAMARK, the college’s facilities partner, with the company’s first Campus of Excellence Award for its facilities program. The honor recognizes Olin’s commitment to innovation, talent management, training, operational excellence and student engagement, coupled with a strong valued partnership.

“We are extremely honored to be selected for ARAMARK’s first ‘Campus of Excellence’ Award,” said Joanne Kossuth, Olin’s VP of Operations. “We have made a long-term commitment to improving our operational efficiency and sustainability efforts, and, with ARAMARK as a partner, we feel we have made great strides in attaining our goals.”

Olin College has had tremendous success with its campus-wide environmental sustainability and energy programs. Since partnering with ARAMARK in 2006, Olin has been able to reduce its energy consumption by 42 percent; utilize the innovative Blue Cleaning® Program to replace traditional cleaning chemicals by using on-site self-generation of Electrically Activated Water (EAW); and increase its recycling rate to 50%.

Student, faculty, staff, and employee engagement has also increased due to the development of an ARAMARK sustainability fellowship program that was created to involve students in the process of managing campus facilities with a focus on sustainability.

In addition to being named a Campus of Excellence by ARAMARK, Olin has previously been recognized by the Environmental Protection Agency and the Newton/Needham Chamber of Commerce for its sustainability efforts.
