“There’s a large amount of speculation about Apple losing its market dominance in the Smartphone market and there’s no doubt that Apple’s feeling the pressure,” said Norman Fong, CEO and Co-Founder of BuyVia.

BuyVia, an app and website that provide the first all-in-one smart shopping experience across devices, today released results from their Smartphone survey. The survey revealed that the top three features that are most desired by consumers for their next smartphone purchase are a faster processer, larger screen and a lower price. Of those surveyed, the majority (46%) of current iPhone owners have no plans to switch to Android and the majority (42%) of current Android owners have no plans to switch to iOS.
“There’s a large amount of speculation about Apple losing its market dominance in the Smartphone market and there’s no doubt that Apple’s feeling the pressure,” said Norman Fong, CEO and Co-Founder of BuyVia. “Our survey finds that people still want the iPhone, but it’s clear their popularity is somewhat eroding. Consumers are more discriminating about features and pricing, no matter what platform they buy. Whether it’s a cheaper iPhone, or potential products like the rumored iWatch, no position is safe and everyone has to continue to step up their game.”
When it comes to upgrading, the survey found that 41% of consumers want the next iPhone (iPhone 5S/iPhone 6), 19% want the recently released Samsung Galaxy S4, 27% are unsure, 4.7% want a Windows Smartphone, 2% want the Samsung Note II, 2% want the new Blackberry 10, and 2% want something else.
The survey revealed that 30% of consumers upgrade their phone every 2-3 years followed by 28% of consumers who upgrade each time their contract is up with their mobile provider, 17% claimed they didn’t have a specific timeframe for upgrading, 14% upgrade each year, 9% upgrade every three or more years, 3% upgrade more than once a year and 1.5% replied ‘other.’
The survey found that once consumers upgrade they either keep their old phone as a back up (in case they lose or break the new phone), get rid of their old phone (donate, recycle, sell, trade, etc.) or give their old device to a friend or family member.
