When we first heard about this epic expedition to drive eight hundred miles into the Arctic Circle we had no hesitation in wanting to be involved.

Pentagon Group, the Midlands’ top new and used car dealership, donated a brand new Jeep to a band of brave souls in their 4,500-mile journey across Europe taking them to the heart of the Arctic Circle last month. The mammoth trek, reminiscent of a Top Gear special challenge, was a fundraising mission on behalf of Help the Heroes foundation, which provides aid to soldiers and their families who have been injured in their quest to serve the country and their families.
The seventeen-day trek took the group and the cars on an expedition from the UK to Nordkapp in Norway, Europe’s northernmost point accessible by land and eight hundred miles inside the Arctic Circle. The eight man strong team in four vehicles had to combat snow drifts, treacherously icy roads and plummeting temperatures on their route; dealing with being snowed in several times as the overnight snow came down as the crew slept.
In order to cope with such a harsh range of terrains a perfect vehicle was needed to be able to withstand whatever road surface was thrown at the band of brothers. To meet these requirements, Pentagon Group supplied a straight off-the-peg 2.8L Jeep Wrangler Overland. It was only slightly modified and fitted with lifted-upgraded suspension, larger wheel arches and bigger tyres to pass any test laid down in front of it and to handle the amount of load that the men needed to carry with them.
James Reeve, Marketing Director at Pentagon, a used cars Manchester specialist, admitted that he was ‘relieved’ that the Jeep they donated survived the gruelling test saying: “When we first heard about this epic expedition to drive eight hundred miles into the Arctic Circle we had no hesitation in wanting to be involved.
It was a herculean effort from the guys for such a worthy cause and the team here are just glad that the Jeep Wrangler Overland could cope with the treacherous conditions. Now we know it can we are sure to get more people down to the dealership to try it out!” he added.
One of the hardy explorers, Army Reservist Ian Williams, admitted that the “fantastic drive” of the Jeep had made the expedition an “extremely enjoyable and unforgettable experience.” And when quizzed on whether he would ever buy a Jeep Wrangler Overland, emphatically retorted: “Absolutely, no question!”
