Optimum WiFi Provides Fast, Secure Wireless Internet Access At More Locations And to More Users Than Ever Before

"Cablevision is keeping up with the rapidly growing demand for reliable wireless data by continuing to expand our Optimum WiFi network to 75,000 hotspots.” - Gemma Toner, Cablevision’s senior vice president of broadband product management

Cablevision Systems Corp. today announced that Optimum WiFi, which provides free wireless Internet access to Optimum Online customers, is now available at more than 75,000 hotspots in the Tri-State Area. In addition, more than one million Optimum Online customers have now tried Optimum WiFi, which delivers speeds* that are dramatically faster than expensive 3G and 4G cellular data services. Optimum WiFi is the nation’s largest WiFi network.

“Cablevision is keeping up with the rapidly growing demand for reliable wireless data by continuing to expand our Optimum WiFi network to 75,000 hotspots,” said Gemma Toner, Cablevision’s senior vice president of broadband product management. “Using Optimum WiFi can help reduce dependence on overpriced, slower, and constrained cellular data networks and mobile data plans that come with steep overage charges. We are pleased that more than one million of our customers are enjoying the many benefits of Optimum WiFi, with the vast majority using the service on a regular basis.”

Getting online with Optimum WiFi is simple. Coverage is easy to locate using the Optimum WiFi Finder app, which allows users to carry out quick, advanced searches for Optimum hotspots, and is available as a free download in the Apple App Store, here. Signing on to Optimum WiFi is seamless when customers register their devices with “Automatic Sign In” a feature that enables users to sign in to Optimum WiFi just once, and automatically connect to the network whenever they are in an Optimum hotspot.

More information on Optimum WiFi can be found at http://www.optimumwifi.com. Customers can also tune in into Channel 910 on Optimum TV to view detailed coverage maps and a list of the newest local hotspots which display automatically based on the customer’s location. Customers can also access specific information on current Optimum IDs in use in the home, view their WiFi usage data, and register a WiFi-enabled device for automatic sign in.

Optimum WiFi was an important resource for Tri-State customers in the aftermath of Super Storm Sandy, providing wireless Internet access for those without power to their homes or businesses. More than 30,000 hotspots were functional immediately following the storm and almost all were returned to service within seven days.

Optimum Online customers also have access to CableWiFi™ hotspots. Brought to consumers through a collaboration among U.S. Internet service providers including Optimum, Time Warner Cable, Comcast, Cox Communications, and Bright House Networks, the CableWiFi initiative allows high-speed Internet customers of the participating companies to access each other’s WiFi hotspots. When traveling outside of the Tri-State Area, Optimum Online customers can look for the “CableWiFi” network and through a simple sign on process connect using their Optimum ID and password.
