Sammons Financial Group (SFG) member companies have been recognized for the second consecutive year as a Platinum-Level Fit-Friendly Company by the American Heart Association.

“We are honored and excited to again be recognized by the American Heart Association as a Platinum-Level Fit-Friendly Company,” said Esfand Dinshaw, Chairman and CEO. “There’s no better benefit... than helping our employees have healthier, longer lives."

Sammons Financial Group (SFG) member companies have been recognized for the second consecutive year as a Platinum-Level Fit-Friendly Company by the American Heart Association. The award is attributed to the company’s ongoing efforts to incorporate wellness and healthy living programs, champion the health of their employees, and work to create a culture of physical activity and health in the workplace. SFG was recognized among 351 companies in the 11-state Midwest Affiliate region, which employ over 1,154,250 employees, of which SFG member companies employ 1,253.

“We are honored and excited to again be recognized by the American Heart Association as a Platinum-Level Fit-Friendly Company,” said Esfand Dinshaw, Chairman and CEO. “We strive to build a healthy culture throughout SFG and there’s no better benefit to offer than helping our employees have healthier, longer lives.”

SFG’s Healthy Living Committee manages programs for employees such as nutrition Lunch and Learns, and exercise and weight loss challenges. By example, the Des Moines location offers Fit Friendly Fridays, providing licensed instructors to hold classes such as yoga and kick boxing. More recently, SFG’s “StairWELL 2 Health” program encouraged employees to take the stairs rather than the elevator during the month of March.

Studies suggest that by starting a worksite physical activity program and promoting a culture of activity, employers can increase productivity, reduce absenteeism, lower turnover, and reduce healthcare costs.
The American Heart Association’s goal by the year 2020 is to not only reduce the rate of death from cardiovascular diseases and stroke by 20 percent, but also to improve the heart health of all Americans by 20 percent. Since the Fit-Friendly program began in 2007, more than 2,500 worksites representing more than 5.6 million employees have participated.
