"If you're looking for a bargain or want the adventure of a treasure hunt, these rummage sales are prime for doing both."
Chicago, IL (PRWEB) April 10, 2013
Secondhand Chicago, Chicago’s most comprehensive website for resale shopping, has released its 1st Annual Thrifty 50 – a list of 50 must-visit Chicago area rummage sales in 2013.
The Thrifty 50 contains rummage sales in Chicago and 26 surrounding suburbs, from Highland Park to Woodstock to Steger. The sales range from one day to three events and vary in merchandise and size. But, all hold the promise of great bargains and benefit a variety of churches, schools and other non-profit organizations.
“If you’re looking for a bargain or want the adventure of a treasure hunt, these rummage sales are prime for doing both,” said Mike Muhr, owner of Secondhand Chicago. “And you’ll definitely want to arrive early at some of these sales because there will be a line of people waiting to get in.”
Merchandise found at sales varies, but shoppers can typically find clothing, household items, décor, furniture, books and music. Some sales will also feature collectibles, antiques, jewelry, sporting goods, fitness equipment, tools, outdoor and seasonal holiday items.
Rummage sales vary in age from the relatively new (4 years old) to the granddaddy of area sales -- the Winnetka Congregational Church’s annual event, first held in 1902 -- a year before the Wright Brothers flight at Kitty Hawk, NC.
Suburbs represented in the Thrifty 50 include: Arlington Heights, Buffalo Grove, Brookfield, Crystal Lake, Deerfield, Elk Grove Village, Des Plaines, Evanston, Highland Park, Glencoe, Hinsdale, Kenilworth, Lake Forest, Mt. Prospect, Northbrook, Orland Park, Park Ridge, Steger, Vernon Hills, West Dundee, Western Springs, Wilmette, Winnetka and Woodstock.
