On April 11, 2013, Quorn releases a statement regarding how choosing to eat a vegetarian diet has health benefits and is also less expensive than eating meat.
According to AZ Central, Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health is campaigning that meat consumers “[eat] like a vegetarian just one day a week to reduce consumption of saturated fat by 15 percent. This is enough to ward off lifestyle diseases including heart attacks, strokes and cancer.”
Mark Bittman, author of How to Cook Everything Vegetarian was quoted by AZ Central saying, “The world is changing in a way that is going to push all of us, reluctantly or not, towards being at least [semi-vegetarian]. Our current rate of meat and fish consumption simply cannot be justified.”
AZ Central goes on to mention how major meatless meals, such as vegetable stew, have been found throughout the world for a reason. “They are filling and richly flavored. Vegetable stew mimics those made with beef, pork or lamb with meaty Portobello and white mushrooms. It also incorporates stew staples — onion, carrots and, in a twist on tradition, sweet potatoes.”
Quorn Foods representative, David Wilson, commented on the article, and understands that cost may be a big issue for those thinking about switching to a vegetarian diet. “Eating healthy may seem like its expensive, but in actuality it’s not. Eating meatless meals, or meat reducers, can provide major health benefits and save people money.”
Wilson comments that vegetarian meals are superior tasting to most meat based meals. “Quorn meatless meals are incredibly delicious and taste the same, if not better, than meals that are primarily meat. People considering a meatless diet should try it for themselves and see how good Quorn can be!”
