Following reports that construction has begun on the LA Metro Expo Line Bridge, Bay Fastening Systems issues a response.

On April 12, Bay Fastening Systems reacts to the start of construction on the LA Metro Expo Line Bridge in Culver City, CA.

Construction of a bridge connecting two phases of the new LA Metro Expo public transportation rail line has begun, according to an article published by Southern California Public Radio. According to Exposition Metro Line Construction Authority CEO Rick Thorpe, work on the bridge will be completed by the end of the year. The full LA Metro Expo rail line, which extends 15.2 miles, is expected to be completed in 2016. The new bridge will serve to combine two sections of the Expo line. By 2030, the Metro Line Construction Authority expects 64,000 daily Expo line riders. Currently, the partially completed Expo line is already averaging nearly 26,000 daily riders.

Utility work has been completed, and columns are currently being constructed to help support the bridge. The article reports that there will be road closures and reduced parking spaces during the time of the construction.

“We are always encouraged to hear about improvements to the public transportation infrastructure here at Bay Fastening Systems,” says Richard Nappi, a Bay Fastening Systems Application Specialist. “We believe that quality rivets, like the pop rivet, will contribute greatly to the construction process of the bridge. It is exciting to see new technological advances that introduce new uses of structural rivets and lock bolt systems that replace traditional nut and bolt applications. This establishes new foundations for more superior and longer lasting construction. Not only do many bridges contain rivets, but many construction vehicles contain rivets as well. For example blind rivets, also known as pop rivets, are useful for situations where only one side of an application is accessible; hence, the name, Blind Rivet.”
